Counter to the philosophy of most businesses today, we believe that less is more. Our goal at Sandstone Rustic Retreat is to create space for you and your group or significant other to re-connect. A space that is distraction-less. There is so much noise in our lives today, we found ourselves and other are looking for the same thing...a quiet and intimate setting that is set up to gather together, tune out the noise be able to be present with each other. A space where you're not competing against TVs and loud music...don't get us wrong, we love a good Netflix movie or some great music...but there are spaces for that all around us. There isn't a laid back, comfortable and welcoming environment that's not overrun with 100s of other people trying to capture that "moment" for their social media post. From couples getaways to small workshops, retreats, weddings and receptions...our property offers something special...located just 1.8 miles from downtown Wisconsin Dells, we're far enough away to see the stars and listen to the crackling of a fire and close enough that if you want to catch some live music and engage in the more social side of things, it's a 5 min ride down the road. If you're looking for something quieter than the Waterparks and large resorts, we'd love to host you, your group or event!
History
Established in 2022.
Originally Hagen's Tavern, the property was run as a supper club known for its Fish Frys and Prime Rib dinners for many many years. Built in the late 1930s-early 1940's, it has so much history. The property itself is nestled on the back side of Blackhawk Island, now a nature conservancy and sandwiched between DNR owned and controlled land, it will remain insulated from development. Later in its life, a local boat company ran dinner cruises from the dock and when the jet boat tours came to town they spent some time here too. Run as a tavern until 2022, it saw a host of proprietors and different names through the years. After the Hagen family sold the property, it became known as Sandstone...with many variations of that name. We have kept that piece as a hat tip to its history and because of the structure being made of Sandstone, quarried on site when the modern road was put in...additionally, the walk to the riverfront is highlighted by a gorgeous Sandstone canyon with 225ft walkway
